When you first think of Jersey Politics, the words liberal and democratic do not immediately spring to mind, however, last Wednesday, a meeting was held at Hautlieu School to discuss the idea of forming a branch of the UK Liberal Democrat party in Jersey.
I attended the meeting, which was a modest affair. Notable in her absence was Advocate Rose Colley, who I am sure had a good reason for not attending; however, the meeting was essentially called by students whose idea it was in the first place. It was refreshing to hear 4 young people who were intelligently and articulately commenting on politics in the island. Maureen Lakeman was one of those students. Here she talks with Tom Gruchy about politics in Jersey.

I would suggest that the time of 5:30 was one of the reasons that Rose could not attend.
ReplyDeleteStill Mark is as ever insightful and knowledgeable.
Very good interview with Dr. Forskitt Monty can we have more of the same please? Have you thought about interviewing other politicians for the blog? This is what a lot of us are looking for PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT and not the 20 seconds of propaganda we get fed from the state media. You could have hit on a real niche here so please consider it.
ReplyDelete@Anon. I agree, there is scope for a lot more of this and I intend to do more interviews like this (hopefully with fellow States Members too) in the new year.
ReplyDeleteMonty that is welcome news because people are getting sick and tired of the state media having the monopoly of what we are allowed to know and bloggers have shown how much they have covered up and in particular the abuse inquiry which they simply made up a fairy story. Looking forward to your venture in the new year.
